The Victor Babes University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMFT) is a public university located in Timișoara, Romania. Established in 1944, it is the most significant medical faculty in western Romania and is named after Victor Babes, a renowned scientist who conducted research and studied at the institution. Babes made significant contributions to fields such as microbiology, obstetrics, and chemotherapy. In 1986, the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy was formed at UMFT following a major restructuring of Romanian institutions of clinical medical education and training. Initially, the faculty had only four clinical departments, but it has since grown to become one of the most prestigious medical schools in the country. Over 25,000 students have graduated from the faculty, including many international students. The primary objective of the faculty is to train competent and skilled MBBS students who possess in-depth knowledge of general medicine, a challenging medical specialty that combines clinical aspects with fundamental research. To achieve this, the faculty places equal importance on all subjects studied in the MBBS program, including human anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, histology and embryology, and clinical medicine, including clinical investigation techniques. Additionally, the faculty aims to develop complex personalities capable of tackling the challenges of the modern world.
